Everything comes crashing down when Kai finds Ono tied up in Rei’s hideout. Ono reveals Rei’s history to Kai, who makes up his mind to escape and find out the truth about their past.
\* Rei rescues Kai and brings him back to the hideout, where he asks her questions about the package, leading her to storm out.
\* Kai finds Ono tied up in a secret room and frees him. Ono reveals that Rei lied to Kai about being a rebel hacker and has instead been harvesting memories for profit.
\* Ono is killed by Rei for telling Kai the truth and Kai confronts her about her lies. While Rei is distracted, Kai attempts to disarm her and destroys the hideout.
\* Kai escapes the hideout and seeks out the last clue Ono had given him before his death – the key to a hidden memory Kai had stashed away for himself.
\* Unable to deal with the terrible truth of his memory addiction, Kai reunites with Rei, asking her to leave the illegal memory trade behind. Rei agrees, and they make love.
\* After their lovemaking, Rei pulls a gun on Kai, and he sees the truth with brutal clarity.
